South East Health was set up as an out of hours provider of primary care – and this remains one of our core service areas.

We aim to be a benchmark provider of high quality, cost effective healthcare, with a reputation for clinical excellence and integrity. Our service draws on a network of highly experienced GPs who work, or have worked, in local practices. Many of these doctors have specialist interests, such as orthopaedics, ophthalmology and dermatology.

We are currently contracted by local primary care trusts to provide an out of hours service for more than 2.2million patients in East Sussex, East and West Kent and Brighton & Hove.

The service operates between 6.30pm and 8.00am Monday to Friday, with 24-hour coverage at weekends and Bank Holidays. Out of hours calls from patients are directed in the first instance to one of our call handling centres, which are equipped with the latest technology and system support.

Our call centre team of clinical and non-clinical staff is qualified and experienced in handling patient calls, and will ensure that patients receive the correct treatment and advice.

Patients requiring medical assistance will be advised to visit one of our 21 fully equipped Primary Care Centres where they will be treated safely and effectively by a doctor or nurse practitioner. Patients requiring emergency assistance will have their call transferred directly to the ambulance service or will be advised to attend their nearest A&E department.

Our GPs will also make home visits to patients who require medical attention but are unable to visit a Primary Care Centre. Each GP is accompanied by a driver in a dedicated SEH car carrying equipment to deal with a range of medical conditions.

At South East Health, our commitment to our patients is paramount. We aim to ensure that the best possible service is available to the community in a timely and professional manner.
